I love beads and jewelry, especially Antique and Vintage jewelry. I design vintage inspired jewelry, but with a modern twist. I like to think of them as heirlooms of the future.Cynthiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12337101534643323960noreply@blogger.comBlogger224125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15746875.post-81773115254791758912021-08-11T08:34:00.006-07:002023-05-29T04:41:54.343-07:002018 Beadfest loot<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It might be because I loved trick-or-treating as a kid (all that free candy!). Or it could be because my birthday is in October. But I really think it's just because the leaves are so pretty when they change colors. I like the crisper temperatures at night. Beautiful fall sunsets and full moons. Hot tea or wine by the chimenea.<br />
<br />
Here's some Tree Inspired jewelry...<br />
<br />
This necklace is not very Autumnal. It's more of a Spring feel. The bird's nest focal is from Andrew Thorton (from the Green Girl booth at Beadfest 2019!). I attached it to a Vintaj floral stamping, and added the green glass leaves and little pink Czech spacers.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOJ5H5aHNlp8YOJmT-8yMOVoMgknWVL09xnAks40vKx7VliDySWT2ig34lAM51FCz6YAfv4rDtE5L3P82l7GgnfTogXJKRtSHu0VHR3o4es9Rs0KqeeFcWc0p51wJzDF5uEAM_/s1600/AT_nest_lo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="796" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOJ5H5aHNlp8YOJmT-8yMOVoMgknWVL09xnAks40vKx7VliDySWT2ig34lAM51FCz6YAfv4rDtE5L3P82l7GgnfTogXJKRtSHu0VHR3o4es9Rs0KqeeFcWc0p51wJzDF5uEAM_/s640/AT_nest_lo.jpg" width="318" /></a></div>
<br />
This next necklace also began with a pendant made by Andrew Thorton. I used more, but different, Czech leaves in fall colors. little pine cone-looking beads at the center, and a tiny acorn dangling on one side.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjglA5PGMZLzYUgKQyCFqOEGWxBqx9wV6re69pvGuscIcCyPkvDYz4NiB1lqM5Fnjh7hvrZbnWIE2eZqAKk7z2StVgJ80hQIEYTxUMnq7RUuCy64tUpZoSlhPO-ReXn_okezqyH/s1600/AT_tree_lo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1334" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjglA5PGMZLzYUgKQyCFqOEGWxBqx9wV6re69pvGuscIcCyPkvDYz4NiB1lqM5Fnjh7hvrZbnWIE2eZqAKk7z2StVgJ80hQIEYTxUMnq7RUuCy64tUpZoSlhPO-ReXn_okezqyH/s400/AT_tree_lo.jpg" width="358" /></a></div>
<br />
Simple fall-inspired earring, using copper leaves form Vintaj and small pinecone charms. Petite, but sweet!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_xx7uDB4uomoZQM_KTdWspIq-iejwFUFmjKweEV5gNBxxD_wJqo4olxKHv1CsFYWBVkMc3vPaataAIbybxrad-w2fXKFnqq7IgU8h0puIp9pTbonu1mrR1Ys73fzcWFhSDQcW/s1600/Leaf_earrings_lo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="797" data-original-width="960" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_xx7uDB4uomoZQM_KTdWspIq-iejwFUFmjKweEV5gNBxxD_wJqo4olxKHv1CsFYWBVkMc3vPaataAIbybxrad-w2fXKFnqq7IgU8h0puIp9pTbonu1mrR1Ys73fzcWFhSDQcW/s320/Leaf_earrings_lo.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I picked up this pendant on sale at AC Moore a couple years ago. I used some leafy chain and added some Czech glass leaves (different than previous leaves used - they make such a wonderful variety of bead shapes in the Czech Republic!) Fall-inspired, in reds and coral.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy4bivEvkM_DUuvAF-zwtm1dAqVNZdwyNkpC-rgmP534z0iFVwMTpKSm0gLcVVIQOMEvmjK8pRpqLhK7Hj2cTcpDDwHWnbfzsrK7ave3fDvfJDubgSEB_yw0mSHL0r5T9HD2MR/s1600/Tree_lo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="961" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy4bivEvkM_DUuvAF-zwtm1dAqVNZdwyNkpC-rgmP534z0iFVwMTpKSm0gLcVVIQOMEvmjK8pRpqLhK7Hj2cTcpDDwHWnbfzsrK7ave3fDvfJDubgSEB_yw0mSHL0r5T9HD2MR/s320/Tree_lo.jpg" width="192" /></a></div>
I made these head pins, just fooling around to see if I could make 2 that matched!<br />

Petra's ceramic sticks, drops and spikes are just fabulous!<br />
I put an order together with a certain design in mind, and for the most part, it turned out exactly as I'd imagined!<br />
Before I show you the new necklace(s), I'll show 2 previous designs I made several years ago!<br />
I also envisioned these while I was shopping!<br />
<br />
This is some "vintage scorched earth"!! I do not think she makes the striped spikes anymore. And the little terra cotta heart on the left was a little gift! (she always includes a wonderful gift!!) This is one of my "go to" necklaces!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9Y7OHrmxhJa9CkxGtf8CgZ-GguRML9Ou5VpJ0yjBrLYLYZ_MoKwU_5fbD8SHo0y9mbKYnlO809egnQIVXdZRl-C9kXW3MJWcD0-5pODWKFtyoa5EiihT29KFZVgyzTTmgUb2X/s1600/SE1_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1564" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9Y7OHrmxhJa9CkxGtf8CgZ-GguRML9Ou5VpJ0yjBrLYLYZ_MoKwU_5fbD8SHo0y9mbKYnlO809egnQIVXdZRl-C9kXW3MJWcD0-5pODWKFtyoa5EiihT29KFZVgyzTTmgUb2X/s400/SE1_lo.jpg" width="306" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2G-o-hcImgvzX3bR-d70GGzwog4nxtY-Rh9qVe-Eu5y5f7tlsyhxHXmm7ckWwyrepON2SZnxE7x6YtVH4EN8FdNzo7RWK2DmNAjh72fQh8l2glRg8G9lU7m0GyMr5CEMrg-sz/s1600/SE2_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1160" data-original-width="1460" height="317" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2G-o-hcImgvzX3bR-d70GGzwog4nxtY-Rh9qVe-Eu5y5f7tlsyhxHXmm7ckWwyrepON2SZnxE7x6YtVH4EN8FdNzo7RWK2DmNAjh72fQh8l2glRg8G9lU7m0GyMr5CEMrg-sz/s400/SE2_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This second necklace has more vibrant colors. I made other similar necklaces, gave one to my mom. She wears it often, and receives compliments! I think my sister has one too (it was so long ago, I can't remember)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRTvcJ32biY7MIePTk5PO_Faxk6WfNEa1F4Pj214m8w1VlYc2CpHEq1oPdMVJ-BtMTRTNPjO0C7miaf4un-BhblxcEHtO0LVOsdlfgv9Lkg84gWzOCbzFBW9nx8oWO0El0L1Bf/s1600/SE3_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1264" data-original-width="1000" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRTvcJ32biY7MIePTk5PO_Faxk6WfNEa1F4Pj214m8w1VlYc2CpHEq1oPdMVJ-BtMTRTNPjO0C7miaf4un-BhblxcEHtO0LVOsdlfgv9Lkg84gWzOCbzFBW9nx8oWO0El0L1Bf/s400/SE3_lo.jpg" width="316" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0nh07LwB157DUKnM2_Vwr7l60_gEHrJYYXG-85WnWfHM-C5NXXq6Q6QOFtIfv8YTaMOwD4Zfr4QXJiXZsURb5cEFpzoprFHFD5k9vZadA6V1Nb3Be1E2noZTVNceqyCtysL80/s1600/SE4_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="872" data-original-width="1280" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0nh07LwB157DUKnM2_Vwr7l60_gEHrJYYXG-85WnWfHM-C5NXXq6Q6QOFtIfv8YTaMOwD4Zfr4QXJiXZsURb5cEFpzoprFHFD5k9vZadA6V1Nb3Be1E2noZTVNceqyCtysL80/s400/SE4_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
So, the new necklaces I put on larger chain links, to put some "air" in between the drops. I just love this calming palette of whites and greys, with a hint of patina green! Neutral, but not boring. Similar, but not identical. Work well on their own.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqvdbDDvC4H5w-zXYjZ_Qc_hACHGea8ZSlp-FiDwWqtcBPwKFmgYCGdcdirTbYrCVIIKDJpftzq1iIN8HC5fLx0fBMDxmTnbTSwOjN-gFUvCGvTqC8J5_ynWBNyOg2ST1fAp_n/s1600/SE_twins_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1181" height="365" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqvdbDDvC4H5w-zXYjZ_Qc_hACHGea8ZSlp-FiDwWqtcBPwKFmgYCGdcdirTbYrCVIIKDJpftzq1iIN8HC5fLx0fBMDxmTnbTSwOjN-gFUvCGvTqC8J5_ynWBNyOg2ST1fAp_n/s400/SE_twins_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
But stacked, they have the same "crowded" look as the other earlier necklaces. My new white statement necklace!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Of course, I have lots more yummy scorched earth loot in my hoard to make more!!<br />
<br />
Thanks for stopping by!<br />

No skull beads here...I like (and bought) colorful Czech sugar skull beads, but have yet to make anything with them. I guess I'm waiting for the right inspiration to come.<br />
<br />
In the meantime, I recently got a little baggie of Halloween pendants at Walmart! They have $.99 bags of random bead mixes. Sometimes there are some really nice beads in those bags! I spied these 2 pendants and snatched them up. The pendants are "faux" bottle caps with resin covered printed images.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCW34W4WxA5uAHZYi3x2BE7QTXW-xelKusbprNJFOv_4WHy83K72dMYB64P-jPTNgnxIJ4ypeBNDzzI-hntqJ4vX6tcAPqgHI4DtuD421acip0PJvypk-6tojwoTQ35vwKMMhE/s1600/bones_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> </div>
First up is Jack O. Lantern. Vintaj Arte Metal chain and gun metal bead caps with round black glass beads, and smaller vintage faceted glass black beads.<br />

<br />
For this little spooky guy, I got another 99 cent baggie that had a random assortment of orange lampwork glass beads (probably made in India or China). More Arte Metal chain, more gun metal bead caps.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Leftover from last year's Halloween supplies, I had this pair of silver bone connectors. I used the antique brass and gun metal bones last year. I don't really like silver (I'm firmly a Vintaj brass gal!) so I guess I just ran out of ideas! These old bones have been laying on my bead table all year! In the baggie of orange beads were these 2 beads that matched, so I thought, why not make earrings?! Clearly, they would only be worn for Halloween.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCW34W4WxA5uAHZYi3x2BE7QTXW-xelKusbprNJFOv_4WHy83K72dMYB64P-jPTNgnxIJ4ypeBNDzzI-hntqJ4vX6tcAPqgHI4DtuD421acip0PJvypk-6tojwoTQ35vwKMMhE/s1600/bones_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1520" data-original-width="1041" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCW34W4WxA5uAHZYi3x2BE7QTXW-xelKusbprNJFOv_4WHy83K72dMYB64P-jPTNgnxIJ4ypeBNDzzI-hntqJ4vX6tcAPqgHI4DtuD421acip0PJvypk-6tojwoTQ35vwKMMhE/s400/bones_lo.jpg" width="273" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Actually, that's how I got started making jewelry (years and years ago!). I wanted a pair of Halloween earrings and couldn't find any. So I went to Michael's and bought some orange and black beads, headpins and ear wires. There were left over beads, so I made more earrings. Then I wanted different colors, so I bought more beads. Fast forward, I have a room full of beads now!! LOL.</div>

My cousin and her husband recently came to town to visit my mother and me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We had a nice visit, but she came down with a cold, and was most interested in napping in the recliner!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Trying to think of something close by to take her husband to, we ended up at the <a href="https://www.mercermuseum.org/" target="_blank">Mercer Museum</a> in Doylestown Pa (I live a couple miles from Doylestown). I took photos in there, but the perspective is hard to see - you have to go there and see the place for yourself. There are, what seems like, millions of things to look at. Check out the web site.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On our way out, we looked around the gift shop. Of course, I am always looking for things to make jewelry with. I found these pendants! They are made by a potter that works at the near by <a href="http://www.buckscounty.org/.../MoravianPotteryTileworks/MoravianPotteryandTileWorks" target="_blank">Moravian Pottery and Tile Works</a>. (The tile works, along with another museum, Fonthill, are all related to each other and founder Henry Mercer)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These pendants are made in the same style as the tiles that are reproduced at the tile works!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I found (in my stash) green Czech glass and wooden beads that matched the terra cotta clay and green glaze perfectly!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG247NEKrgDL5g7-aHSmHXIMQLYoRQmlnIaVsoLu3BE48y7oWeRmoxxw8wx3jOMVqonbRvlIvZFv0WnSscOUOn2RZ51OT73nQ1Lrif6nBDaLfTWLc-qkabhwbIkizqsA1nm4vq/s1600/clay_bird_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1593" data-original-width="1080" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG247NEKrgDL5g7-aHSmHXIMQLYoRQmlnIaVsoLu3BE48y7oWeRmoxxw8wx3jOMVqonbRvlIvZFv0WnSscOUOn2RZ51OT73nQ1Lrif6nBDaLfTWLc-qkabhwbIkizqsA1nm4vq/s400/clay_bird_lo.jpg" width="270" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A close up of the pendant!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And, I also found (in my stash) black Czech glass beads to go with the black floral pendant!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGyfu0_We14QShp12VWT4kY6Ec8H5mnT5MdqzgMjI7uIOMWg3oLVpNaRAGmGhzh5hELxyvrQDCZQczPIzJLxDHc69Bkbc_7VZIe1-FXv828tAD_WoR5JELy3ltCVn0oo4Wd1hO/s1600/clay_floral_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1000" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGyfu0_We14QShp12VWT4kY6Ec8H5mnT5MdqzgMjI7uIOMWg3oLVpNaRAGmGhzh5hELxyvrQDCZQczPIzJLxDHc69Bkbc_7VZIe1-FXv828tAD_WoR5JELy3ltCVn0oo4Wd1hO/s400/clay_floral_lo.jpg" width="250" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also took them to the "<a href="https://stoogeum.com/" target="_blank">Stoogeum</a>" in Springhouse Pa. If you are a fan of the Three Stooges, it's really a "must see" if you're ever in the southeastern Pa area!</div>

Really, a stay-cation. We got lots done around the house, but also did some day trips.<br />
We went to Bethlehem PA, which has a cute (but small) downtown shopping/eating district. While there, I saw 2 policemen on horseback! Just standing there on the sidewalk! Weird but neat.<br />
<br />
We also went to Strasburg PA, to see the Pennsylvania Train Museum. My husband wanted to go, so we went. It was very nice - well done, and tons of old train cars, steam locomotives, cabooses, etc. Lots of interesting stuff, lots of reading, lots of history!<br />
Strasburg was very quaint and pretty. There were a TON of antiques shops all over, but we didn't have time to stop in any of them. (I need to go back there!). We did stumble into a craft show, hoping to find PA Dutch food. All they had were crafts and some vintage things. I did find some neat old buttons.<br />
Across the street from the museum was the Strasburg RR. You can actually ride on a Steam locomotive train! In that parking lot were trailers full of pumpkins, gourds, indian corn, etc! The pumpkins were only $2.00, so we got some!<br />
Unfortunately, we did not notice (or realize) they were starting to "go". I arranged my pumpkins on the back patio, to enjoy for the coming weeks. Well, the 2 larger ones were promptly ripped open and eaten (by raccoons??) They really made a mess. *sigh*<br />
But my smaller white pumpkin and dark green gourds have been left alone, atleast for now...I'm still enjoying them!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9nWWzC_wy33EewBBQ2NjuRu49bwQbj15pFbtoGgNRIKk-E9aFwEwYAIN2-9WUnHDWhmC7VO7VoCmYwq4Xg73hl-6wiSAbb8JTsSvMmCfaLfuBt8kHEsyYhARRaaip4nxqcGyX/s1600/Fall_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1112" data-original-width="1560" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9nWWzC_wy33EewBBQ2NjuRu49bwQbj15pFbtoGgNRIKk-E9aFwEwYAIN2-9WUnHDWhmC7VO7VoCmYwq4Xg73hl-6wiSAbb8JTsSvMmCfaLfuBt8kHEsyYhARRaaip4nxqcGyX/s400/Fall_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I added witches hair (old leaves from lilies), red leaves, pinecones, acorns and red dogwood berries.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Every morning I come out and hope it's still there. Actually, *someone* ate some of the dogwood berries, but that's ok.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Seasons greetings!</div>

I'll still try to do this, but will not beat myself up for not posting regularly. It will just be a once-in-a-while thing, and hopefully my followers (you!) will enjoy the posts whenever they occur. I do admire the bloggers out there that really keep it going - It's hard to do.<br />
That said, I have something to post! (with photos too)<br />
<br />
I did a pop-up show at my local gallery (Orchard Artworks) back in August. There was art on the walls in a "Colors of Summer" theme, and then every weekend there was a different pop-up show. Our main goal was to book guest artists (we booked 2!) but we ended up having some member pop-ups, like mine, so the room would not be "bare". I sent out emails to all my contacts/friends. Some of my friends showed up, which was nice! I really appreciated their support!<br />
The only "theme" my pop-up had was "new items" - things that have not been in the gallery before. Everything I showed was "new" to Orchard Artworks. <br />
<br />
This is my display as seen walking into the gallery.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwvpbYq5pZZ3BWThHPds5T2gj0kKXEkuXOyttmovsuQQtmlnd-NZpd3Cp3j4KqVQUdZqtw9bjTAFw4BFRcvT4aGaNO3iz96NxmzI3BBYRZKNIMjV3rFbyaarA0FeZtlMv4Q0pb/s1600/popup1_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1273" data-original-width="1000" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwvpbYq5pZZ3BWThHPds5T2gj0kKXEkuXOyttmovsuQQtmlnd-NZpd3Cp3j4KqVQUdZqtw9bjTAFw4BFRcvT4aGaNO3iz96NxmzI3BBYRZKNIMjV3rFbyaarA0FeZtlMv4Q0pb/s400/popup1_lo.jpg" width="313" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
And this is the back side, after you walked around the table. I dug into my older designs that had never been at the gallery before. I was obsessed with hand woven cords a
few years back (and I have all the yarn to prove it - lol). I have had some cords in my gallery space, but those have assemblage pendants that I made using Vintaj filigrees. The necklaces in the photo below are my hand woven cords, using purchased pendants. The pendants are sterling, with various stones, pearls, etc. I have not had them at the gallery since the pendants were not made by me.<br />
<br />
In the foreground is a tray of my attempts at wire-wrapping stone and bead pendants. While I like them, they will likely become Christmas gifts, since they didn't sell. (spoiler alert to my family and friends!)<br />
<br />
In case you noticed the vintage looking postcards, they are photos from my family. The woman with the big black hat is a photo of my maternal grand-mother Isabel on her honeymoon at Niagara Falls. (circa late 1920's). The photo of the 2 girls is my husband's paternal grand-mother Nellie with her little sister Elisabeth. 2 cuties! (probably circa 1910's, as my in-laws were older than my folks).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaJN_MyZvYBB_NlYD7jF8ua5olMry47MVCwB8JsBDugEgNOJ6wOrbZee6LAWaykJQgQQOajWylCNSfLl3PZ4SpoodqyiY1C-KCXDAQPHQpMxOtkVfibHpBIC2YqSkEIhT13C3N/s1600/popup2_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaJN_MyZvYBB_NlYD7jF8ua5olMry47MVCwB8JsBDugEgNOJ6wOrbZee6LAWaykJQgQQOajWylCNSfLl3PZ4SpoodqyiY1C-KCXDAQPHQpMxOtkVfibHpBIC2YqSkEIhT13C3N/s400/popup2_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I tried to have many new designs for the pop-up.<br />
I made lots of necklaces using Czech flower beads. I'm
really in love with Czech table cut flowers right now!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcPHfaOD6XVgAB9BuqqmZsphu0-x1bY1k9q0jBqAvRZLJj8vlz5H8n0fgxiz53fPqjtxS2RZAmxY5LY9kzYnIgBhw4oo90RyuqfosIBtlD96_WTIDO-OYTzMLfaRkpSBh7kDty/s1600/popup_czech_lo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="992" data-original-width="1600" height="247" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcPHfaOD6XVgAB9BuqqmZsphu0-x1bY1k9q0jBqAvRZLJj8vlz5H8n0fgxiz53fPqjtxS2RZAmxY5LY9kzYnIgBhw4oo90RyuqfosIBtlD96_WTIDO-OYTzMLfaRkpSBh7kDty/s400/popup_czech_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I also made lots of leather and big seed bead bracelets (on the bottom bracelet bar). Various color combos, all use 1.5mm leather and vintage buttons for the closures.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
After making the seed bead bracelets, I wondered what it would look like if I used big hole pearls (on the middle left bar). Also with vintage button closures, but on 2mm leather.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And then....I received a gift of watches! They were very pretty, and in working order, so I made 4 watches with leather and big hole pearls! (on top bar) Also with vintage button closures and 2mm leather.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There are 2 lonely looking wrap bracelets on the middle bar as well. Surprisingly, they both sold! Well, I was surprised....</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHMgY0WwI1m7qjHpSMAbvh3NpKJg28INepS2mSBhmlIvjq6L8uMtd6uaToCl8URaTPaaOcmCZN8pNz_hx31HS9gSrw_2ZnInWtI13nnBiz7P0ydt3yL7uKIuMvV6N4Y5iCheEa/s1600/popup_bracelets_lo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHMgY0WwI1m7qjHpSMAbvh3NpKJg28INepS2mSBhmlIvjq6L8uMtd6uaToCl8URaTPaaOcmCZN8pNz_hx31HS9gSrw_2ZnInWtI13nnBiz7P0ydt3yL7uKIuMvV6N4Y5iCheEa/s400/popup_bracelets_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I bought a baggie of feather bookmarks last year at Beadfest (at Supertime, I think), and decided to try my hand at making bead embellished bookmarks. I liked them but it felt like they weren't "artistic" enough, so I hand painted them with Vintaj patinas.<br />
There are a handful of lockets on the tray behind that. The lockets are simply on chains with Swarovski accent beads.<br />
<br />

This photo hints at my previous infatuation with freshwater pearls and Sterling Bali beads. The 2 closest trays have some of those. I still have quite a stash of supplies, but then I became MORE infatuated with Vintaj and wire....so the freshwater pearls and Bali beads are waiting for me to return to them....someday.<br />
There's also a tray of Czech flower earrings, to coordinate with the Czech flower necklaces.<br />

All in all, it was fun to do. It was a good motivator to get some new things done. And, I still stand by my "old" cords and pearl necklaces - I still love them. I did sell some things, which is always nice!</div>

It's my downfall when potato chips are involved - LOL.<br />
But, when it comes to making jewelry, the more the better.<br />
I had another inspiration for a necklace for my sister (the mother of the groom). You can see the first 4 necklaces in a <a href="https://cynthsblog.blogspot.com/2018/05/mother-of-groom-bling.html" target="_blank">previous post</a>.<br />
<br />
Here's a stacked group of wire wrapped stick pearls, in grey (with matching earrings!). My sister has a weakness for pearls, so she might pick this necklace over the others.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuOhtv7AQCLOzAKOIhzgIlt3ACi0u-FXjLBjv0mV82cnvzER6qZYTiPNAa9meJ8NchKdtabZgTjjSgkGr5piwa7zBabxh39PEo_jmin02yypx2OJsjbo_dge32SIHnjhD6nFl9/s1600/grey+stick+pearls_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1172" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuOhtv7AQCLOzAKOIhzgIlt3ACi0u-FXjLBjv0mV82cnvzER6qZYTiPNAa9meJ8NchKdtabZgTjjSgkGr5piwa7zBabxh39PEo_jmin02yypx2OJsjbo_dge32SIHnjhD6nFl9/s400/grey+stick+pearls_lo.jpg" width="390" /></a></div>
<br />
I made the same design in white stick pearls. Those pearls are sort of double sticks, but I like them just as well in this design. It looks like these necklaces, but white! (with silver wire and chain) I don't have a photo yet.<br />
<br />
This necklace isn't for the wedding - I just made it because I had the violet stick pearls! I'll probably keep this one - love it!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3huvh6egDoP0guQP89ISoUERBurImjCtbrf8bZo8wDIrs3ZgHe6lv_nUHn05Fw7XX5xwf-iTFgjfFShPtQr4sEz1p-j3C9GBT9l3CJ71AlzZJ5NVaXizoymVKnt7S5DaPX6-R/s1600/violet+stick+pearls_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1431" height="335" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3huvh6egDoP0guQP89ISoUERBurImjCtbrf8bZo8wDIrs3ZgHe6lv_nUHn05Fw7XX5xwf-iTFgjfFShPtQr4sEz1p-j3C9GBT9l3CJ71AlzZJ5NVaXizoymVKnt7S5DaPX6-R/s400/violet+stick+pearls_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pretty, pretty pearls!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
For my Mom, it was "one and done"! Uncharacteristically, I stopped after the first necklace. But, it is really perfect, so why make anything more? Plus, she was really excited about it too.<br />
There are 3 tiny light blue rhinestone pins that she got at a garage sale, for me to use. They are combined with antique silver filigrees and a rhinestone brooch from my stash. It looks stunning with her periwinkle gown.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlmF8IEb6Wy0Noji9AGdA5-_vuqWkjJpE6NXRWxahVcotLW61a9UvtiLcRdAI7-aHra8sB9UtJ1TI7iJseCeuWLSPeJz-o9VE74INPNK9_WUmViPo9VKcfgDZsoP8urTH96b9v/s1600/Mom_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1120" data-original-width="1167" height="383" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlmF8IEb6Wy0Noji9AGdA5-_vuqWkjJpE6NXRWxahVcotLW61a9UvtiLcRdAI7-aHra8sB9UtJ1TI7iJseCeuWLSPeJz-o9VE74INPNK9_WUmViPo9VKcfgDZsoP8urTH96b9v/s400/Mom_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Beautiful jewelry "runs in my family". hahaha</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
In the meantime, I finally got inspired to make something for myself!<br />
I have been very undecided, but tried to make something anyway. I'm not committing to wearing either of these next 2 necklaces to the wedding, but I'll take them with me and decide later. I also have some very nice vintage Victorian jewelry that I could wear, so I'm still on the fence...<br />
<br />
My dress is navy blue. I really didn't want to wear a navy blue gown, but it was on super clearance and was only $18.00! And, it fits me well. And it's "age appropriate". If you haven't shopped for a gown lately, you might not have noticed that everything is geared towards younger, skinnier "women" (a.k.a. girls). I realize prom dresses are more sought after, especially this time of year, but us older gals need to get dressed up once in a while too. I started searching for "mother of the bride" dresses online, just to eliminate the super tight, super sexy dresses, with spaghetti straps (or no straps). My dress is sleeveless but doesn't feel "bare" up top. The neckline is like a low cowl, and not too low. And I don't feel like a school marm in it.<br />
<br />
I connected mixed metal filigrees with jump rings, and then glued vintage Swarovski bead caps, to make the necklace "blue". I found these beads caps at Beadfest (last year?) and bought them in every color! When I stumble upon anything cool and vintage, I must buy every color, and multiples, to make sure I have a life time supply! (see opening statement of this post! lol.)<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC9nV9XwgVNr-JGUBdYx7txnQTWQO6L8mDD8usxg0M08HVnAz9SW1cN3ybi-N-9oyx_qwxJWchbGmmuCgC8M_Bna376Hu1kW3TE8VnqZvWKoqj9NDrnpZjWcK_Exz_y0rv0qiD/s1600/filigree+with+blue_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1336" height="382" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC9nV9XwgVNr-JGUBdYx7txnQTWQO6L8mDD8usxg0M08HVnAz9SW1cN3ybi-N-9oyx_qwxJWchbGmmuCgC8M_Bna376Hu1kW3TE8VnqZvWKoqj9NDrnpZjWcK_Exz_y0rv0qiD/s400/filigree+with+blue_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Mixed filigrees with vintage blue Swarovski bead caps affixed.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
This next necklace was made to sell at the gallery. But I thought maybe the buff color of the main stone would look good with navy, so I brought it home. The smaller stones are faux opals. The stones in the chain portion are peach moonstone (I think) and match a bit closer in real life (my photograph is not accurate!).<br />
The focal was part of a pre-made focal I got at Michaels. The part I removed was smaller and heart shaped. I bought 2 and made earrings from the 2 smaller pieces. They are sold already, so I can't show you those. There was also another necklace, but that also is sold already! Yay customers!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhFcbyj7jTdeHoclkNQhJz3Kz2QGW6BJUoQORC6H4zfeKpA4EztfxLt1RRAC9GOYoTNv0may4MAC8XcxZDhdqhVcYbKos1ZuKtvOVGc61HNua-iPbAzVSLX_quCifgMh0R-YnJ/s1600/buff_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1160" data-original-width="1174" height="395" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhFcbyj7jTdeHoclkNQhJz3Kz2QGW6BJUoQORC6H4zfeKpA4EztfxLt1RRAC9GOYoTNv0may4MAC8XcxZDhdqhVcYbKos1ZuKtvOVGc61HNua-iPbAzVSLX_quCifgMh0R-YnJ/s400/buff_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This might look nice with the dress, but it doesn't have the "wow" factor.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's it for now. I have a couple more ideas, so there will probably be another post with more wedding jewelry. Maybe I'll take photos of my Victorian things - now that's my favorite eye candy!</div>

My friend Sheryl gives me old broken beaded necklaces to create new necklace designs for her. A few months back she gave me some Rose Quartz nuggets and a Rose Quartz and purple crystal beaded bracelet, along with 3 green "wedding cake" beads (lampwork glass with lacy looking details).<br />
It took me a while to get the inspiration to make something with the Rose Quartz. I like Rose Quartz, don't get me wrong, but it never looks as pink once you remove it from the pink string they string it on. The color is almost off white or pale flesh, especially when you mix it with other non-pink colored beads. But, I finally found inspiration!<br />
<br />
The first necklace I made was inspired by a design I saw on the Vintaj website in their <a href="https://www.vintaj.com/gallery/default.asp#section2link" target="_blank">idea gallery</a>. (they've got a TON of eye candy/ jewelry porn!) They wired a bead to a circular filigree. This was just the thing I was looking for! The wedding cake beads were not big enough to be used as a "focal" for a necklace. But wired to a brass stamping, it became the focal I wanted. The other 2 wedding cake beads were used in the necklace, on either side of the focal. The rest of the beads are Rose Quartz and purple crystals from Sheryl's bracelet. I added antique brass bead caps and some iridescent size 8 seed beads.<br />
My photograph is awful - the Rose Quartz beads look blue in the photo!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-ZmwswhXlxyxLR6dWSwnzU0hIHM3DUNB-KfGrg_nnJyB9UFxL0bvrQHzQQmK6jmngs_HGVYdmr86zienaps01X1V0XGeqw9zFMwdgofbZtg_1ffjEBs2fr2Z-JZjQFpsEbmhO/s1600/Sheryl1_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="513" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-ZmwswhXlxyxLR6dWSwnzU0hIHM3DUNB-KfGrg_nnJyB9UFxL0bvrQHzQQmK6jmngs_HGVYdmr86zienaps01X1V0XGeqw9zFMwdgofbZtg_1ffjEBs2fr2Z-JZjQFpsEbmhO/s640/Sheryl1_lo.jpg" width="204" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This was a more experimental design, but Sheryl liked it. Again, the Rose Quartz looks blue in my photo. These were the larger nugget beads. I created the 3 drops and put them on a curved antique brass spacer. The drops can slide and move around, but the weight of the beads keeps them towards the middle. This necklace reminds me of an Art Deco light fixture, for some reason. I plan to revisit this design in the future!<br />
<br />

I will post the photos of the rest of the wedding jewelry (see previous post) soon!<br />

Blogging used to me more popular. Everyone's on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pintrest, etc. these days, so there are fewer and fewer blogs to read anymore. I still like to read them though, and I try to leave a comment once in a while. I will admit I should comment way more often.<br />
I couldn't tell you why I haven't posted here in almost a year...I guess I got out of the habit of photographing my jewelry. I'm not much of a photographer, so it's like a chore for me. But still, I know it's a great way to record what I'm making, and I love looking back through my archives, to see how my designs have morphed and changed over the years. Sometimes I get a fresh inspiration from an old design.<br />
So, with that said, I'm going to try to get this blog going again.<br />
I won't look backwards.<br />
<br />
Looking forward then.....I am going to my nephew's wedding in June!! It seems like only yesterday he loved to play with his Tonka Bulldozer! Now he's a young man, first-time home buyer, and soon-to-be newlywed!<br />
My sister is the mother of the groom, so she has a special dress for the occasion, and I have offered (really, I've taken over) to outfit her in jewelry.<br />
She's in California and I'm in Pennsylvania, so she will pick a necklace when I get out there. But I have photos of the dress. It is a medium to light grey, with crystal colored bead work all over. It has somewhat of a plunging neckline (V-shaped).<br />
<br />
There are so many directions to go!!<br />
<br />
So let's just let the pictures do the talking.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbPIJZsEIyI9I5ab_SgzIX5Lsds0OKd73Jma02etyYLqDLpuaUHF3yVvBRUhzHnigV3LUlK76YGAmdjfWsFe79vGACh7Y72cLwKsAb5I1I32Lisj4RRwNkpJ-mbPM0my1ceZOG/s1600/bling1_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1036" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbPIJZsEIyI9I5ab_SgzIX5Lsds0OKd73Jma02etyYLqDLpuaUHF3yVvBRUhzHnigV3LUlK76YGAmdjfWsFe79vGACh7Y72cLwKsAb5I1I32Lisj4RRwNkpJ-mbPM0my1ceZOG/s400/bling1_lo.jpg" width="323" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Vintage rhinestone pins, rhinestone circle links from Michael's</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The first necklace may be too much necklace for her dress, but it is clearly my favorite!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJtRQvoyacU4KDEQIwz0u7hlAR-tjZrRXCHklFxRGqlYVDX_86i5VnBXGl4RERxFDqhVc74VcXJQOJPdybQqbKBJGS7m2K_yU5G0vvMlr9Yp4hvfc5ikIg1BQuApoKqQTDh71w/s1600/bling2_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="693" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJtRQvoyacU4KDEQIwz0u7hlAR-tjZrRXCHklFxRGqlYVDX_86i5VnBXGl4RERxFDqhVc74VcXJQOJPdybQqbKBJGS7m2K_yU5G0vvMlr9Yp4hvfc5ikIg1BQuApoKqQTDh71w/s400/bling2_lo.jpg" width="216" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Vintage rhinestone circle pin, crystals and chain.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Second necklace is simple on purpose, with dangling crystal to hang in the plunging neckline.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgurTYD8J56cMUn0FZI553SFp13UyZupw9zV6GIBbhyU6H8kitsyeP9drKOnSzdWGZT-G1voztCIHSEiIjtOlRT-mysThDTBMlu_YEvID8wDHVK5-w8rH-YCmtH9XAf7uies5YC/s1600/bling3_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1040" data-original-width="760" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgurTYD8J56cMUn0FZI553SFp13UyZupw9zV6GIBbhyU6H8kitsyeP9drKOnSzdWGZT-G1voztCIHSEiIjtOlRT-mysThDTBMlu_YEvID8wDHVK5-w8rH-YCmtH9XAf7uies5YC/s400/bling3_lo.jpg" width="291" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Vintage rhinestone dress clip, rock crystal, blue Chinese crystal with rhinestone rondelle spacers</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The third necklace is made from the oldest of the vintage pieces. It has some yellowing and missing rhinestones. I replaced many, but there are just too many tiny rhinestones to replace. If anyone gets that close to her necklace, they probably should get slapped for being fresh! I thought the art deco feel of the dress clip and necklace design might look good with the dress.<br />
<br />
<br />

We have guest artist Ellen Tepper joining us for these 2 months, with her Celtic painted glass panels and polymer clay dragons! (clicking the Orchard Artworks link above should take you to a photo or two of the show, once the show set up is complete). Ellen also plays harp, and has many recorded CD's!<br />
<br />
The member artists were encouraged make artwork inspired by the theme, so I got inspired!<br />
<br />
I started by painting my "dragon eye" cabochons. I made 10 necklaces featuring them. The eyes are different colors: red, brown, blue, green.... It was fun trying to achieve different color combinations, while still having it resemble an eye.<br />
Next was getting the eyes into a setting. Some I simply glued on to a filigree. Others I wrapped the filigree around the edges of the eye. On one I used some wire, to anchor the eye. Once they were in a setting, it was time to find beads in my stash to coordinate with eye color. I found the yellow choker in my stash. I don't hardly remember buying it. But I thought the orange-ish eye looked good on it, so I went with it!<br />
<br />
I will say, I like them, although "eye" jewelry is not my usual thing. All these eyes have been in my house staring at me! LOL. I'm glad to get them to the gallery!!<br />
<br />
I also made a couple necklaces with fairies, figuring they were somewhat related to the theme. One necklace has an eye AND a fairie! (2 for 1 - haha).<br />
<br />
To keep the Medieval theme going, I looked through my old pins, and found two that I felt were Medieval-ish.<br />
The Shield shaped pin, with a purple center stone called out to me. I got the round purple stone connectors in NYC (see older posts about CJS in NYC).<br />
The other old pin is really a reproduction of an old buckle pin. It's not really old-old, but I like it anyway. I stumbled upon a carved stone butterfly (in my dragon hoard of beads) that was the same warm pink color as the stone in the pin. To that I added strawberry quartz beads.<br />
<br />
As I thought more about how to display my jewelry, I was trying to come up with something that looked medieval or middle-earth-like. I was in a thrift shop, and the dark red ceramic bust-shape vase was just sitting there. I hesitated for about 2 seconds! I will have no use for it after the show is over. Maybe I can sell it at a garage sale, if I ever have one!<br />
<br />

She could keep me busy with project after project, well into my old age! hahaha.<br />
Last time we met, I gave her 2 necklaces (below) which I made out of some of her broken jewelry bargains. She gave me a new project to consider - huge beads made of agate (?)<br />
<br />
Let's get started...<br />
These are the 2 necklaces made from broken jewelry. The necklace on the left is made from carved bone beads. I used some gunmetal bracelet clasps as "links" in between the bone beads. I glued a small bone bead on the clasp in the back and then glued a black rhinestone in the hole of that bead. The clasps are from CJS (see older post about the suitcase of stuff I got!!). I got a baggie full of mixed gun metal clasps.<br />
<br />
The necklace on the right has an old earring as the focal and various agate beads with Chinese crystal links. The mixed stone necklaces Sheryl brings me have such irregular beads in them, and it can take a while to locate beads with holes big enough to go on 20 gauge wire. I managed to find pairs of similar beads, so the necklace has a symmetry about it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7PjmsP6RWMNGsqWaXuuxu0Pm4r0u0FTdaWXC3rDe-OPR2j83dwbx4yq-3FOLtAzQBnkO0HjUZHIxoyhunO4fq_OXokaINfo9MrVDYdLoawyzF7ur3j_MkWKeELmQ_TU2uWshO/s1600/SherylsBeads_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1049" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7PjmsP6RWMNGsqWaXuuxu0Pm4r0u0FTdaWXC3rDe-OPR2j83dwbx4yq-3FOLtAzQBnkO0HjUZHIxoyhunO4fq_OXokaINfo9MrVDYdLoawyzF7ur3j_MkWKeELmQ_TU2uWshO/s400/SherylsBeads_lo.jpg" width="261" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">note: I ran into Sheryl the day after I gave her these, and she was wearing the agate necklace!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
After I gave her the 2 necklaces above, she pulled out a broken necklace, which, honestly, you'd need a back brace to wear!! LOL. It was made of the below 6 stones, the largest of which is about 2.75" long. These are big, heavy stones!!<br />
The idea was to make simple necklaces. So I made some headpins out of wire, with a "knot" for a head and started making pendants. These first 3 have orangey colors, so 2 of them got a small orange bead at the top. The center one has a small gold tone bead. It was a stray bead that was in Sheryl's bag of beads, so I went with it. I put them on long chains - 30" or so.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivCa08h_NBeIzqAUn3No6b4jLUOFnaNU7RzFfl1K9-JukZGsa21CKyDQ2v7zn3vSagc7eZNTTe5m1_BftdyW5bOZzRTbKVRhC9DF1uKCg9MQm8JBoC_Amd5tL6JM4BDBKWa9oe/s1600/Stones1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1035" data-original-width="1600" height="257" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivCa08h_NBeIzqAUn3No6b4jLUOFnaNU7RzFfl1K9-JukZGsa21CKyDQ2v7zn3vSagc7eZNTTe5m1_BftdyW5bOZzRTbKVRhC9DF1uKCg9MQm8JBoC_Amd5tL6JM4BDBKWa9oe/s400/Stones1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Two of the stones below had more yellow than the stones above. The center necklace has a yellow glass faceted bead and a Vintaj brass acorn bead cap. The glass has swirls in it, like the stone. The stone on the right had yellow and orange and I thought it would look good with the brass beads (to pull out the yellow in the stone). I don't do a lot of bead stringing these days, so that was a nice change. The stone on the left was drilled off center, and begged to be used horizontally. I found some jasper beads with some grey veining, to complement the main stone. These are all a bit shorter - 22" to 24".<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEBZFd8Di6DJmMqq7Uzx3Z4IFzR5aBgnEWcPjaRZWWJkxUg7mcz-UROlLz91Qfoat-x1plrWt6kCiJapbEGH5g9bripNg2bYG16ItYvjb7B5Zi94qHjlGui0O__YbyXXizAj1-/s1600/Stones2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="986" data-original-width="1600" height="246" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEBZFd8Di6DJmMqq7Uzx3Z4IFzR5aBgnEWcPjaRZWWJkxUg7mcz-UROlLz91Qfoat-x1plrWt6kCiJapbEGH5g9bripNg2bYG16ItYvjb7B5Zi94qHjlGui0O__YbyXXizAj1-/s400/Stones2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
All in all, I'm happy with them. Let's hope Sheryl is too.<br />

I "scheduled" this to post on April 11. I just noticed that it was <em>never posted</em>. Rather than toss it, I'll post it now, for what it's worth!<br />
<br />
<br />
There was a bead show this past weekend in Oaks Pa (Philadelphia area)! It is the first year Interweave did not have "Beadfest Spring", and Innovative took it's place. Beadfest Spring was always quite a bit smaller than Beadfest in August. And I have been to a small Innovative bead show in Doylestown, so I was familiar with Innovative Bead Shows.<br />
<br />
I went to it, expecting it to be a small show. It was set up differently than Beadfest. For starters, they actually let us in the door before the starting time, and allowed us to buy our tickets. Beadfest always made us stand outside in line, and did not sell the entry tickets until the start time (this is my understanding, I've never been at the front of the line!). <br />
After buying our tickets, we were able to look over the show floor. Beadfest always used tall curtain partitions, so you couldn't see "inside" the show.<br />
When 10:00 rolled around they announce we could enter the show floor. There were some "old favorite" vendors (Parawire, 2 Bead Sisters, Metalliferous) and some "new to me" (Trixie's Jewel Box, Rob's Rocks) vendors.<br />
Towards the back of the room was an opening, with more vendors! That was also the way to the restrooms and the food vendor, so not really a bad location! Also back there were the "classrooms". I did not take any classes, but we could hear student banging away on something metal, no doubt!<br />
All in all, I liked the show! And will plan on going next Spring, if Innovative has the show again. It appeared to be a "small" show when we first got there, but it ended up feeling much bigger by the end of the day.<br />
<br />
I need more beads like a hole in my head. But of course, I bought beads!! I would like to say that I did try to curb my purchases, but I managed to allow myself to make a splurge purchase. I bought a strand of Amethyst beads with a natural edge.<br />
With my "splurge", I made the below simple necklace Friday night after I got home from the show.<br />

First, all the talk about the Printer's Cabinet. It took all year, but I think I'm done talking about that. It's happily ever after in my bead room.<br />
<br />
Now, I've refurbished some dining room chairs!<br />
<br />
I'll start by saying that I have never liked my current chairs. They came with the table (at an estate auction), but don't really match. I wouldn't care about them not matching but the worst thing about them is they are ladder-back chairs. I like the look of them all right, but they are so uncomfortable. So, for the past 18 years (how long we've been in our house), I've been on the look-out for chairs. I didn't have anything specific in mind, but I'd know it when I see them. I go to local thrift stores fairly regularly, and one day spotted these.<br />
The wood was all but bare, the fabric seats atrocious, but good bones! They're circa 1950's I believe.<br />
Here's the "BEFORE" pictures:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpK5Ghf8TRk4gSDMTPn_iRPZHkFM84coJ7Wxba-CieWNrFSAGM3_cHu8bww3dnHaiTheRWlW2PergttQ0Aojj6EjV4dqwYxtaxc1SRcfeR8cRuILbdXR0CbPjtaKHt38i-Q9Uu/s1600/20170212_130554.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpK5Ghf8TRk4gSDMTPn_iRPZHkFM84coJ7Wxba-CieWNrFSAGM3_cHu8bww3dnHaiTheRWlW2PergttQ0Aojj6EjV4dqwYxtaxc1SRcfeR8cRuILbdXR0CbPjtaKHt38i-Q9Uu/s400/20170212_130554.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">In the basement, rag bin in background! lol</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgygG-kV6cPeEeHZKqjchmnzzdx-kd8nOYty9tx3biF3Nbukv5cBKoBL-y3-8tjURtr4ZV58RUlWoevBcy_DTtYk8FEdakWppYpZStehYf8NpNRxt3LUX1qXDysufU6aX0UWI5X/s1600/20170212_130608.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgygG-kV6cPeEeHZKqjchmnzzdx-kd8nOYty9tx3biF3Nbukv5cBKoBL-y3-8tjURtr4ZV58RUlWoevBcy_DTtYk8FEdakWppYpZStehYf8NpNRxt3LUX1qXDysufU6aX0UWI5X/s400/20170212_130608.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The wood looks downright thirsty!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I removed the dirty 70's gold fabric to find dirtier 50's fabric underneath!<br />
I found fabric that I liked at Joann's in the clearance section. Just lucky!<br />
I stained the wood "Antique Walnut"and applied 2 coats of polyurethane. Went over the wood very lightly with #0000 steel wool, to make them nice and smooth.<br />
I added foam to the seats, to make them more comfy.<br />
Then, re-covered the seats with my pretty new fabric!<br />
Et Voila!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWDduXzX-UFp15OKvEOo0jxwg1WsJNfG4DUliZhAnYAxZT34A41LCHA6r-7khrl6XAd48QIgm1Il8PbHCbvLc_dqCyIW8lfDCx-o-tsjWEWnOiApegkU0A_E2EfPe5xgvcA-BX/s1600/chair_after1_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWDduXzX-UFp15OKvEOo0jxwg1WsJNfG4DUliZhAnYAxZT34A41LCHA6r-7khrl6XAd48QIgm1Il8PbHCbvLc_dqCyIW8lfDCx-o-tsjWEWnOiApegkU0A_E2EfPe5xgvcA-BX/s400/chair_after1_lo.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
They aren't perfect, but they turned out pretty well. My photos don't show the fabric. It's tan and grey threads that are woven in a faint stripe.<br />

I cleaned it up then refinished the wood. In the process of cleaning, some of the drawers got splintery. So I lined those drawers with little pieces of paper. I'd say about 10 drawers needed the paper lining, so doing that probably took me a month to complete. And I've been working on filling it with beads since then (October).<br />
<br />
If someone would have told me how many hours it was going to take to get my bead stash into the drawers, I would not have believed them. I already had much of my stash of beads loosely organized by color. The beads, either as a strand or in a small bag, or both, were in plastic bins labeled with the color family they belong to. So, the basic sorting of maybe 75% of my stash was already done! Easy, right?<br />
Not so fast...<br />
To put the beads into the drawers, you first have to get them out of the baggie or cut the strands. Some of the beads on the strands are next to impossible to get loose. They are knotted and run back through the end bead (sometimes twice)! I also had zip-lock baggies that were so thin (do they come in .25 mil? lol), it took all my eyesight and fingernails, and sometimes I resorted to scissors, to get them opened! Don't get me started about bags that are zipped AND stapled! It was challenging at times.<br />
<br />
The compartments in some of the drawers are different sizes, so once you have the beads loose, you try to guess which compartment they'll best fit in. Of course, sometimes you don't guess correctly, and then you have to scoop the beads out of the compartment (with a spoon or your fingers), to put them in a more fitting sized compartment! ARGH!<br />
<br />
Anyway, there are 25 drawers in the printer's cabinet, and I have filled all but 1-1/2 drawers. One of the drawers that I haven't filled had been painted inside with bright red paint by someone, so I thought it may be distracting to whatever I put in it. So, I'm thinking that one over a little before putting things in it.<br />
I took a photo of every drawer, but 25 photos is too many, so I'll just show you a few!<br />

OK, so I have made a couple things with my loot from CJS in NYC. I've been busy since October filling my printer's cabinet. (<a href="http://cynthsblog.blogspot.com/2016/10/printer-cabinet-revealed.html" target="_blank">here's the post about that</a>) I will write a post about the filled cabinet later. But, it took A LOT of time to fill the drawers, and I really hardly made any jewelry for 4-5 months! It's nice to start creating jewelry again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These earring components are from CJS, as are the cabochons. The little hearts dangle inside the circle, and this is how they came. I got a baggie full of them. I'd say the circle is about 18mm wide. I glued the cabochons on to the hearts, and added earwires. The patina you see on the circles is just how they came.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijGGAVfgbXhtGuCg5uCg-MKW2ICyBC7H2xjZkXuZ8Nkh5tScW5x8TMuQamUW1hhDQxygY2gLFzbblF0d8o8QWwbKRKHd31rl-eGfLx0f7p0Gsb7VcFOgdoAcv4RB6FADvoc58c/s1600/Heart_earrings_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="262" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijGGAVfgbXhtGuCg5uCg-MKW2ICyBC7H2xjZkXuZ8Nkh5tScW5x8TMuQamUW1hhDQxygY2gLFzbblF0d8o8QWwbKRKHd31rl-eGfLx0f7p0Gsb7VcFOgdoAcv4RB6FADvoc58c/s400/Heart_earrings_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The heart focal is from CJS. It is plastic that's been metalized. And then it appears to have had a very hard life! lol. It is tarnished and worn, but I like it the way it is. I also found the little swirly heart connector (in the center, above the focal) as an odd little piece in a different bag of beads. It was just in there, so I thought I'd use it. Everything else is from my stash. The oval peacock dot beads would never had been used if not for my recent printer cabinet organization blitz!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIGcGO0zDiyq_Cvo4KyAsyIifrxe9egHVN2kEX3SDVdLFZTPevyDMQTBOC5HRh8NnuDy3kSwnDFMmFSrlMWdfT9GeJ5HGQ7JEb-NhX6miT6lKExxzGPLM-HjeZn5WzgxOreudK/s1600/Heart_necklace_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="385" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIGcGO0zDiyq_Cvo4KyAsyIifrxe9egHVN2kEX3SDVdLFZTPevyDMQTBOC5HRh8NnuDy3kSwnDFMmFSrlMWdfT9GeJ5HGQ7JEb-NhX6miT6lKExxzGPLM-HjeZn5WzgxOreudK/s400/Heart_necklace_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
These are quite similar, but different. At CJS, I bought a baggie (about a Quart size) of these green plastic charms. They are all the same shape, but different sizes and colors (both transparent and opaque). So I played around with layering the smaller ones on the larger ones, and came up with these two necklaces. Because they are plastic, they are feather light, which makes them so comfortable to wear. They make a fun clickty-clack sound when you move.<br />

The CJS beads in these two necklaces are the oval wooden beads. They vary in size and have slight variations in color too. I've had both these focals on my desk for a long time, just waiting for the right idea to come along. The round raven focal is from Humblebeads. The diamond Raku focal is from Oscar Crow (on Etsy). The wood beads are a grayish blue, and work with both focals, even though they are different colors.<br />

This necklace has beads from various places. The beads from CJS are the long silver beads with the rose embossed into it. These are metalized plastic! The quality of the metalized plastic at CJS was really good. If they weren't so light weight, you'd think they were really metal! The glass heart was picked up at a small bead show. The 2 round red rose beads are from Jesse James. They are all metal and super detailed! Oh oops, I lied. The red fire-polished crystals were also from CJS!!<br />
I don't work in silver tones much, but this was a gift for a friend that likes silver, so I forced myself to do it! LOL.<br />

Well, believe it or not, that's all I've made with my suitcase full of beads, so far. But like I said, I've been in organizing mode lately! More to come!!<br />

It truly sounded like heaven to me. I'd really wanted to go, but I wasn't likely to go to NYC (from Philly area) by myself. Luckily for me, I have a friend that feels the same way about beads, and bargain hunting. Together, we hatched a plan to go.<br />
<br />
We met up very early in the morning and caught a train into the city at Princeton Junction. One short hour later, we were in midtown Manhattan! We made the mistake of getting in the "quiet car", so we had to move down a car, so we could talk excitedly about our fun adventure. The people on the train probably thought we were absolute hicks - talking on the train, and asking questions, not knowing where to put our tickets, etc...we weren't as blasé about going to New York City as all the "regulars" were. <br />
<br />
I had done my research before going, so I knew exactly where we needed to go. Coming up from underground onto the streets of New York can be confusing, but once we figured out what block we'd emerged on, we took off on foot. CJS is only about 4 blocks from Penn Station - how convenient!<br />
And it was a weird mild weather day for November, so we didn't even need to bundle up! In fact, we got too hot!<br />
<br />
My friend brought her rolling carry-on suitcase, but I had convinced myself that I <em>wouldn't buy too much</em>, so I brought a collapsible wheeled tote, the kind you'd use to transport a knitting project. We didn't know what to expect, really.<br />
<br />
We arrived at the building and took the elevator to the 2nd floor. The doors opened and it was unbelievable! There were beads and jewelry supplies everywhere! And I do mean everywhere!! They were stacked up in boxes in hallways, on the floor, even on the air conditioner in the window! (heaven!)<br />
<br />
Carl, the owner, gave us the tour....the finished jewelry room, the pearl nook, the metal room, the plastic room, the shell and wood room, the chain room, etc. Every room was filled with boxes full of jewelry supplies, with the boxes stacked 4-5 deep, with just skinny paths through the rooms. The main room near the elevator had old Swarovski stuff, and fabulous vintage cabochons. The pricing was by the pound, for the most part. He handed us an empty box, and left us alone to explore.<br />
So, we started in the metal room, rummaging through box after box after box, throwing bags of stuff in our boxes as we worked our way through the rooms. Metal, then wood and shell stuff, then to the chain room, which had lots of glass beads and plastic beads as well. As our boxes filled up, we'd take them to the main room, to stack near the elevator, and to grab a new empty box!! (this is when I should have realized I was in trouble!)<br />
<br />
We were there from about 9am until about 1pm. We kind of both looked at each other at the same time and said we were ready to call it quits. I was completely saturated in all things "jewelry". We were hot, tired, thirsty, hungry, and completely thrilled. Carl weighed our boxes and tallied the results.<br />
<br />
The good news was that all my stuff fit into my tote. The bad news was my tote was not up to the task. I don't remember how many pounds of stuff I got, but it was more than I thought it would be. After leaving CJS, we ate lunch nearby and attempted to go to some of the actual bead stores in the neighborhood (in the garment district), but my bag, while it did roll, was too heavy for me to go too far. So, we headed back to catch the train. I was able to get my bag onto the train, but as I made the final shove, to get in my seat with my loot, I heard the sound of breaking plastic. Uh Oh! We rode the train back to NJ, and I dragged my bag off the train. The wheels were all but gone.<br />
<br />
At this point, I should mention that I'd parked the car <em>expertly</em>, as close to where we boarded the train as possible. Of course in hind sight, it would have been advantageous to have parked on the other side of the tracks in the morning, so we'd be parked on the correct side when we returned. Lesson learned.<br />
<br />
So, my bag needed to go down the steps, through the tunnel under the tracks, and then back up the other side....My friend offered to help, and we both grabbed the handle and started dragging it. We were doing ok, and I didn't really care if the bag got scraped up from the sidewalks. We got almost to the bottom of the stairs when a young woman walking behind me said "Excuse me, ma'am, I think your bracelet broke". I turned around and saw beads all over the steps. My bag had busted open, and beads were bouncing down the stairs! My Precious!!!! All the people on the stairs were nice enough to pick up beads and hand them to me. I got my bag down to the bottom of the stairs, shoving the loose beads back into the hole. At that point, I literally had no idea how I was going to get the bag the rest of the way to my car. It needed to go through the tunnel, and then up the stairs on the other side!! I was feeling hopeless, and panicked when a young man stopped and said "Do you need help with your bag?". Now, I consider myself an independent woman that has never needed a man's help, but in this moment, I think I saw a halo around his face and heard angels singing! I said "Oh my God, yes. Let me carry your soda.". So he handed me his Mountain Dew, and he picked up my bag and carried it up the stairs and to the curb on the other side. He even offered to take it all the way to the car, but I told him we could handle it from here, and thanked him profusely!! So, I brought the car over to the bag, and we loaded my pitiful bag, and my friend's rolling carry-on (which actually worked well, but one wheel suffered an injury under the weight of the beads) into the car.<br />
<br />
Exhilarated! Exhausted! <br />
<br />
Now, you deserve some photos!<br />

Sadly, CJS has lost their lease and will be forced to move, although I don't know how they'll possibly move everything. There is so. much. stuff.<br />
Hope you enjoyed hearing about my "adventure"! Thanks for stopping by!<br />
<br />
Next post I'll show you some jewelry I've made with My Precious from CJS!<br />

She came over in the morning, and stayed til dinner time!! We took a lunch break, and then got right back to playing.<br />
<br />
This is Joan sitting at the "guest table" in my bead room.<br />
I sit in the black office chair, surrounded on 3 sides by beads. OMG. It is quite a mess. I will be doing some major reorganization when I start putting things in the Printer's Cabinet (see post from last week).<br />

I have been making it. I just haven't been taking the time to snap photos for the blog! Sorry about that.<br />
<br />
Here's some simple necklaces that I made from pendants I made a while ago, but never finished them up! I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. You buy a new component, and want to use it right away, so you don't stash it away, you keep it on the desk, so you can look at your new precious and shiny. Then weeks pass, and you still don't know what to do, so you do something little, like pick out a jump ring or bail and attach it, or in my case, wrap a filigree around it. Then more weeks (or months or years) go by, and that fabulous component is still staring back at you!! It will not be ignore any longer!!<br />
<br />
This is a wood cab (from Skye Jewels, I think). I wrapped the filigree around it when I got it (a long time ago!) It was on the desk, when the greenish enameled bead was in view (from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/GardanneBeads" target="_blank">Gardanne</a>, before I started enameling). I picked out some pink flower beads from my collection. Voila! (it only took years to make! lol)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqpL-NYIGpeChOgaSP2Cm09fLeacF-8puOjUKR8B-l2Y6d_YV8jGHcuB96cQ0ppvqR5R1nisRfblMU1kxEBr1RuLoLfATEmJQInNNJ0gtsYMUyGZZyrRPWcZRcox75WyVZ-9-L/s1600/floralWood1_hi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqpL-NYIGpeChOgaSP2Cm09fLeacF-8puOjUKR8B-l2Y6d_YV8jGHcuB96cQ0ppvqR5R1nisRfblMU1kxEBr1RuLoLfATEmJQInNNJ0gtsYMUyGZZyrRPWcZRcox75WyVZ-9-L/s400/floralWood1_hi.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Another angle. The pendant is lightweight, as is the enamel bead.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIwLAjyXYkjia6lC5LP3NRn_Y-STkfITRHd9xahjdUkdg6VVfh-c_xgbs9PpqP2BYuWw7PcEfvc7_CPWRt0g4XoKG14uA6SrIgwv1mDcV4p66tmJ7-pXPl-aw9Ps5DWGTnacDF/s1600/floralWood2_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIwLAjyXYkjia6lC5LP3NRn_Y-STkfITRHd9xahjdUkdg6VVfh-c_xgbs9PpqP2BYuWw7PcEfvc7_CPWRt0g4XoKG14uA6SrIgwv1mDcV4p66tmJ7-pXPl-aw9Ps5DWGTnacDF/s400/floralWood2_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This Raku moon cab has been in my possession for a really, really long time. I loved it too much to make anything with it! It is from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/oscarcrow" target="_blank">Oscar Crow on etsy</a>. That shop has some cool and bizarre things.<br />
The Raku bead is from Xaz beads (when they were at Beadfest one year!) The other beads are hard to see, but they are Vintaj. Still not sure I'll be able to part with this one...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu2HB-BJZaPokaFyVNbAB0mq3gVedyLwXgg6gDzxrPfnXfwr6r98J_rP0BWPRFsP6tKKvW8vQAHo5yMuma7L0VZKAdjni6l-1k8aa4jG9Zrjra26LDUKb1yzzIAkV2ujj-iEsw/s1600/RakuMoon_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu2HB-BJZaPokaFyVNbAB0mq3gVedyLwXgg6gDzxrPfnXfwr6r98J_rP0BWPRFsP6tKKvW8vQAHo5yMuma7L0VZKAdjni6l-1k8aa4jG9Zrjra26LDUKb1yzzIAkV2ujj-iEsw/s400/RakuMoon_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Just a simple chain for this one. It's an ivory vintage plastic floral cab I picked up a long time ago (on etsy, maybe). I wrapped the filigree around it a year ago (probably) and it sat on my bead desk, waiting for the inspiration to come. I finally decided it just needed a chain!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3GFwqHbO3jY87rjoNLj2pRK-aFfTMrH3dBDV6VlCZAjY_XCvi7UESdRFQaCCeCN95jbTLvrFDD15sJ58jAkQHE_u8sbu-UPwkxnCWDxfnjwagQnL7s9nkUhwWm-yEASbLrQYy/s1600/vintage_plastic_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3GFwqHbO3jY87rjoNLj2pRK-aFfTMrH3dBDV6VlCZAjY_XCvi7UESdRFQaCCeCN95jbTLvrFDD15sJ58jAkQHE_u8sbu-UPwkxnCWDxfnjwagQnL7s9nkUhwWm-yEASbLrQYy/s400/vintage_plastic_lo.jpg" width="250" /></a></div>
<br />
My latest "jewelry crush" is making these bracelets. They are fun to make and fun to wear. The only challenging thing about them is finding beads with holes big enough to slide onto 18 gauge wire.<br />

What components do you have on your desk, nagging you to finally do something with them already?? (they are looking at YOU!)<br />

<br />
I am thrilled to have finally finished cleaning and refinishing my printer cabinet!!<br />
It's in my bead room, ready to be filled with beads and findings!<br />

A close up of the drawers pulls!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpjDHwFGFY7-KALJpei43kB9_Qp9fCJA93ii9b7DjsVUz2QDIlQIN8q_TzN9Vp_n1K_UK6ea6g0BFQR5-omyo8dUbSmfLCvlRxAHB1JpmMcW5gyv_5Sq_iQb40ZF1x2H-uAyfx/s1600/PC_after2_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpjDHwFGFY7-KALJpei43kB9_Qp9fCJA93ii9b7DjsVUz2QDIlQIN8q_TzN9Vp_n1K_UK6ea6g0BFQR5-omyo8dUbSmfLCvlRxAHB1JpmMcW5gyv_5Sq_iQb40ZF1x2H-uAyfx/s400/PC_after2_lo.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
The actually loading of the beads into the drawers is turning out to be a bit daunting. I'm hesitant to begin, worried I won't have it organized correctly, then I'll have to get the beads out of their tiny compartments.<br />
But, I guess I will just need to take a deep breathe and begin!!<br />
<br />

They were planted by a neighbor last year, and they are popping up all over the neighborhood this year. This plant has produce lots of blooms, and lots of seeds. The goldfinches have been going to town on the seed heads. They are really active....eating and singing.<br />
They left my mom a love note, of sorts.....<br />

I mean, not as far as it concerns jewelry. We go to family picnics, enjoy fireworks, do all the traditional stuff. But I don't go to great lengths to make or wear patriotic jewelry.<br />
But that all change a bit last week. I was looking through my etsy history, trying to locate a shop I'd purchased from before. I didn't find them, but stumbled into <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/porkchopshow" target="_blank">Porkshopshow</a> again. He has the funnest, craziest stuff - I love it. They have images adhered to wood, and then laser cut. So, I couldn't help myself - I bought some. True confession here - I still have the stuff I purchased from them years ago!<br />
<br />
Anyway, let's not dwell on the past.<br />
<br />
I bought a couple different items, but I was drawn to the vintage patriotic collection of images. Here's what I made, in time for this weekend!!<br />
<br />
First up - I went super simple. I wrapped the wooden "tile" in a piece of Vintaj filigree, and strung it on a piece of recycled silk ribbon.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW20bjhRuwJH617o2ETL9swOr7Cy96wSgxsOyB-_ECQDYbcXV1HioJDLqZqQPa2yxocABaNHQGpAvhh3opKzSFQ8elszCwGBatEWpVKxHU9j1RtRZ-y_PGdHhegKhpK1uOqUFF/s1600/Redsilk_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW20bjhRuwJH617o2ETL9swOr7Cy96wSgxsOyB-_ECQDYbcXV1HioJDLqZqQPa2yxocABaNHQGpAvhh3opKzSFQ8elszCwGBatEWpVKxHU9j1RtRZ-y_PGdHhegKhpK1uOqUFF/s400/Redsilk_lo.jpg" width="331" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Next - same filigree wrapping, but I made some red & blue wire wrapped links with Chinese crystal (nothing's more patriotic than making red, white and blue jewelry with Chinese beads!! lol) and some vintage Lucite red beads, brass bead caps and spacers.<br />
I plan to let my mother choose one of these 2 necklaces to wear to a picnic on Saturday, if she wants to.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIjy47xN7JP8IXs4kAXkDiNLpN-WF6cEGRCDjIyRcrR4VblnYj831oqXYJ5xCjyZvShr3cq8HDJrcYLEP8ES0OWK6MvEh5LC0f6xSA7qYPlGrYl_x7hvVCWsEOlYtiWvPH6cWE/s1600/Four_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIjy47xN7JP8IXs4kAXkDiNLpN-WF6cEGRCDjIyRcrR4VblnYj831oqXYJ5xCjyZvShr3cq8HDJrcYLEP8ES0OWK6MvEh5LC0f6xSA7qYPlGrYl_x7hvVCWsEOlYtiWvPH6cWE/s400/Four_lo.jpg" width="223" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Lastly - I liked the blue and yellow color palette of this tile. Same filigree wrap as first 2, and a simple wire wrap link with yellow Czech glass flower as an accent. I plan to wear this one myself!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuT6jNMPpIu10sVb82lrO2ztClhDy5n1N2O9G9DfkNXGkd1dh6kfaIQj2CCd-ysspodM0aO6JjUkI1p0oWXNa5SksvNMLFXS-evKqUok_I3BsE1bsmipK6SjmfvgzXEeINQM4d/s1600/4thofJuly_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuT6jNMPpIu10sVb82lrO2ztClhDy5n1N2O9G9DfkNXGkd1dh6kfaIQj2CCd-ysspodM0aO6JjUkI1p0oWXNa5SksvNMLFXS-evKqUok_I3BsE1bsmipK6SjmfvgzXEeINQM4d/s400/4thofJuly_lo.jpg" width="256" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
In the meantime, I had also ordered some supplied from <a href="http://www.craftfantastic.com/" target="_blank">Craft Fantastic</a>. The teardrop drop kit (bezel and glass) arrived this week too. So, I picked out the blue and yellow image, and made links, to match the necklace. These can be worn anytime, since there is nothing about them that's patriotic.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEq7cbj0HuUUOemLzkQ82E8yIPBsmVhbrLCXTkaMNZTXtVWz7to7wV35TLLd5Onvs0ixcUHv6IMmNl7i823CWMR00cPqlG2DrLIu-_iKv2f618HZyh_5tWgfmHHAlGRrSUGb2u/s1600/goldenBlossom_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEq7cbj0HuUUOemLzkQ82E8yIPBsmVhbrLCXTkaMNZTXtVWz7to7wV35TLLd5Onvs0ixcUHv6IMmNl7i823CWMR00cPqlG2DrLIu-_iKv2f618HZyh_5tWgfmHHAlGRrSUGb2u/s400/goldenBlossom_lo.jpg" width="325" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Have a happy and safe 4th of July celebration!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A while ago, the folks at <a href="http://www.znetshows.com/">Znetshows</a> put out the call: show the versatility of our <a href="http://www.znetshows.com/gemshow/retail/sea_glass_beads.asp)">cultured sea glass</a>!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
While <a href="http://www.znetshows.com/gemshow/retail/sea_glass_beads.asp)">cultured sea glass</a> beads are great for making jewelry (of course!), especially beachy, dreamy jewelry, they can do so much more. So the design team "brainstormed" ideas, and then we were given beads to put our money were our mouths are. As you will see, cultured sea glass can sure do a lot.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My ideas were to do a wreath, or table ware/ serve ware, or other household items.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For my wreath, I chose <a href="http://www.znetshows.com/gemshow/retail/sea_glass_beads.asp)">cultured sea glass</a> beads in the Olive color. I wanted an earthy green that could have a Christmas feel, but that could also work at other times of the year.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My Woodland wreath on my red front door looks "holiday-ready", but it will just look like a natural woodsy wreath when I move it to my back door for the spring.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started with a vine wreath, and wired the mesh ribbon to it, creating spaces for the "flowers". I created the "flowers" with the sea glass, and some wooden beads from my stash. Overall I'm happy with it. I am toying with the idea of adding a mesh bow, but haven't figured out how or where to do that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My next idea was to wire some cultured sea glass beads to some wood salad servers. I thought it would be easy to locate wooden spoons in the dollar store. But the only thing the dollar store had was unattractive plastic! (the dollar store ain't what it used to be) I finally located these bamboo utensils at Ross (also at Marshall's). I was relieved, because I had already requested the beads, and knew EXACTLY what I wanted to do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wired the beads to the ends of the utensils, to make a flower that looks like a poinsettia, one in red and one in olive green, to use at Christmas time. I used brown wooden beads in the center.</div>

Here 's a closer look at the flowers. The utensils came in a set of 5, so I can make 3 more beaded utensils in the future!<br />

<br />
While I was waiting for my olive green and red beads to arrive, I got started with some of the beads I received previously from Znetshows.<br />
I found this little jar at the dollar store (while I was there looking for the salad set). It is the perfect size for Q-tips or cotton balls, or anything small. It also could be made into a candle!<br />
<br />
These <a href="http://www.znetshows.com/gemshow/retail/sea_glass_beads.asp)">cultured sea glass</a> beads are light aqua "coke bottle" and periwinkle that changes color. It looks more light blue in natural day light, and more lavender in warm incandescent light.<br />
I think it will look nice in my pink tile bathroom, whatever the light source may be!<br />
<br />
I wrapped annealed steel wire around the top of the jar, under the lip for the lid. Then, in a bird-nesty style, I made loops and twists, adding beads as I went around.<br />

Maybe you have other ideas to make non-jewelry items with beads - do tell!<br />

<br />
I got a request to make "message earrings". It's not really my thing. I make what the muse tells me to make. Most of the time. Sometimes, though, I set out to create something I have in mind. So, trying to create message earrings, the first pair I made was "Oui and Non". I love these charms, and have made earring with just the charms (I don't even need the muse's help to make those!). But I thought it might be cool to also incorporate red (for stop) and green (for go). So, I put some small vintage German glass beads in between some Vintaj bead caps at the top of the charms. Just a little of the bead colors peek out from under the bead caps.<br />
<br />
The other pair of earrings are not even message earrings! That was a fail, as far as the mission goes, but I like the way they turned out anyway. I thought about of somehow adding words to the robin's egg colored wooden beads, but decided to stop. I like them as is. The beads hanging from the birds are opalescent blue Czech glass. So, no message, but I've actually named them "Wing It!".<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjai-cPNrIvDQuCcjNigcHoTkzdmELsQTPT6Q8ivzqmdxMmVGwocgV5bIwZzjGlgqw3Xgq4uTZwPvtlpac5U7vo6WtOR7Xb6PsKTgTdXIuzpMbB17oN7U9_rmqBPsbswZp1_NP7/s1600/Oui_Non_bird_lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="287" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjai-cPNrIvDQuCcjNigcHoTkzdmELsQTPT6Q8ivzqmdxMmVGwocgV5bIwZzjGlgqw3Xgq4uTZwPvtlpac5U7vo6WtOR7Xb6PsKTgTdXIuzpMbB17oN7U9_rmqBPsbswZp1_NP7/s400/Oui_Non_bird_lo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
After not succeeding with making earrings with an actual message, I looked through my brass blanks, and decided to stamp something in these Arte Metal round discs (from Vintaj). One pair say "SOAR", the other pair says "FLY AWAY". I stamped the letters a bit crooked and imperfect on purpose.<br />
Then, of course, I needed to use some Vintaj patina so the message could actually be seen. The patinas dry very quickly, and it left a mess all around the letters. So, I decided to smear the color all over, in a thin layer. Then I used a sanding block to remove a little, until I like how it looked.<br />
I dangled little bees in front of "FLY AWAY", and little birds in front of "SOAR". The birds and bees are either Vintaj, or Trinity Brass (which has morphed into <a href="http://www.creativesoulsupplies.com/" target="_blank">Creative Soul Supply</a>).<br />
<br />
Either of these could make a nice graduation gift - encouraging the grad to spread her wings and soar!<br />
